Text to 9-1-1 for OTT Apps

In 2014, the FCC mandated that all wireless and OTT service providers enable text-to-911 functionality. While most have complied with this wireless network requirement, Bandwidth is looking toward the future and emerging mobile VoIP requirements. As more consumers are relying on Wi-Fi devices such as tablets or Wi-Fi only cell phones as their primary form of communication, it’s important that text-to-9-1-1 works on those devices as well. However, today’s PSAP infrastructure will require dramatic upgrades to make it a reality. Bandwidth is working with the FCC on emerging regulatory requirements and preparing to support OTT providers as next-gen guidelines take shape.
